Dismissed health worker claims NHS discrimination

A Catholic mental health worker who was sacked after passing a colleague a leaflet on the psychological impact of abortion, has launched a High Court claim for discrimination against the NHS.

Margaret Forrester was dismissed from her job as a psychological wellbeing practitioner for gross misconduct by North West London Mental Health Trust after giving a booklet which details the regrets of women who have had abortions to another member of staff at the health centre where she worked.

Ms Forrester was dismissed for distributing "materials that individuals may find offensive".

Figures released by the Department of Health show that the number of abortions carried out in England and Wales increased 0.2 per cent in 2011 from the previous year, to 189, 931.
