‘Island Parish’ priest dies

Fr Calum MacLellanFr Calum MacLellan, the oldest of three priests featured in BBC Scotland's television series "An Island Parish", died on Saturday at the age of 86, the Scottish Catholic Media Office.

Fr MacLellan, who retired in 2001, had been the parish priest of St Michael's, Eriskay.

The Bishop of Argyle and the Isles, Joseph Toal, said that Fr MacLellan had continued to support fellow priests throughout his retirement.

Bishop Toal said: "His spiritual and human contribution was much loved by the people for whom he celebrated Mass and the sacraments through these later years. He was never adverse to talking about his own experiences, particularly his achievements, but always with a touch of humour and humility. We trust Fr Calum is at peace with the Lord - hopefully there is still a room for smokers in heaven!"
