Vatican criticises long standstill in anti-arms trafficking action

Silvano TomasiSpeaking to “Vatican Radio”, the Observer of the Holy See to the UN, Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, denounces the freeze in negotiations on the issue.


“Financial interests and the profit that people gain from this non transparent sale of arms” is hindering the disarmament process.
 
Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, who represents the Holy See at the UN in Geneva said this in a statement on Vatican Radio.
 
“The political will to disarm the world – he stated – faces constant obstacles. For example the disarmament Conference here in Geneva has not been able to reach an agreement for a working plan for over 10 years now.”
